Expertise born from experience
A multi-award-winning author, educator, and expert witness, I specialise in the assessment of mental capacity.
With over 24 years as a registered Mental Health Nurse, I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges and cognitive impairments, ranging from Community Children’s Homes to High Secure Forensic Units. This extensive background has refined both my theoretical understanding and practical application in the field.
Since the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), I've been a thought leader and innovator in the field and conducted and guided over 3,500 mental capacity assessments, ensuring compliance with relevant case law.
My book, 'Grandpa on a Skateboard: 'The Practicalities of Assessing Mental Capacity', is widely regarded as essential reading in many UK universities and colleges and my proprietary assessment models have become industry benchmarks.
I am a guest lecturer and had the honour of presenting at the International Congress of Mental Capacity in 2022. In 2021, I co-founded Comentis, a tech company dedicated to helping health, legal, and financial professionals identify and assist vulnerable customers through innovative web-based tools. I also offer Consultancy and Training Services, collaborating with major financial institutions, charities, legal and financial firms and the NHS.
